Our Declaration of Independence firmly enshrines our inalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The freedoms of speech and religion have been appreciated and enjoyed since the birth of our great nation. With the rise of expressive individualism, however, these self-evident liberties have come under intense pressure. Religious conviction is now viewed as hateful bigotry. Freedom of speech is considered a license to oppress and marginalize the weak. A growing authoritarianism is on the rise. What can we do about it?
